This poster session will provide information about an enhancement to the process of making informed decisions when adopting new school and division initiatives. As part of the Virginia Tiered Systems of Supports, the VDOE has established several demonstration sites to feature SIM Learning Strategies, SIM Content Enhancement Routines, and Fusion Reading. Demonstration sites have a successful history in Virginia and have evolved over the years. During the 2018 spring semester, visitors observed classroom lessons, spoke with teachers and administrators about implementation, progress monitoring, and professional learning experiences. Additionally, demonstration teachers made instructional videos and provided student evidence of success to share with interested schools. Demonstration teachers were selected through an application process and received a stipend for their roles and responsibilities of being a demonstration site. Examples from the outcomes of this effort will be shared during the session.

Learning Outcomes/Next Steps

  • To engage in conversation about how to assist schools in making informed decisions when adopting new initiatives
  • To view the process and structures implemented to facilitate and support site visits
