Video Coaching Powerpoint

The purpose of this program is to provide a greater understanding of the video coaching programs that have been implemented by the presenters in over 11 different school districts. The video coaching program was developed and implemented to improve teachers’ instructional skills by enhancing instructional coaching with the compliment of video-recording technology. Video coaching involves the video-recording of a participating teacher’s lesson followed by the teacher working with a video coach in a confidential environment to celebrate good teaching and identify areas for improvement. Our work captured over five years of implementation experience. The presentation will include sharing what has worked and what needed to be improved and the key ingredients for successful implementation. The literature on this topic identified many important elements including the value of teacher reflections for professional growth, the power of teachers viewing themselves on video, and the importance of an instructional coach. This presentation suggests that teachers will find video coaching to be a meaningful method of professional development and that the use of videos improves a teachers ability reflect on their practices.

Learning Outcomes and Next Steps:

The desired outcome of this workshop is to provide an overview with the focus of supporting instructional leaders in honing their skills utilizing the video coaching approach. At the completion of this session, participants will have strong foundational knowledge on how to support the implementation of this model in their District.
