Technical Assistance

The University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning provides technical assistance to State and Local Education Agencies seeking to address the language and literacy challenges faced by disadvantage children and youth. The CRL offers a wide array of programs, interventions, professional development, and instructional coaching that can impact literacy outcomes for students with disabilities, English learners, and students from low income households. CRL staff offer expertise and technical assistance in the following areas:


Comprehensive Adolescent Reading programs and close reading strategies supported by evidence that meet WWC standards.

 Online support for teachers in the design of blended learning environments that support personalization of learning for all students.

High impact Instructional Coaching delivered through a classroom video-based virtual coaching model.

Comprehensive written expression strategies that improve student outcomes at the language, sentence, paragraph, and essay writing levels.

Evidence-based or Engaging strategies scaffolding Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).

Professional learning, ongoing teacher support, and evaluation of technology enhanced teaching and learning. 

Support for designing, implementing, and evaluating UDL environments.

Learning strategies, strategic tutoring, and goal setting for students with learning differences.

Teaching routines that support the acquisition of higher order content knowledge and literacy skills.
