Tonya Eberhart

Tonya Eberhart, Ph.D., serves as a Senior Research Assistant at the Center for Research on Learning at The University of Kansas. She has over 9 years of teaching experience and over 15 years’ experience in creating educational resources and in academic assessment. Prior to her current job, she was an instructor for Fort Hays State University where she taught at their partner school in Xinzheng, Henan, China. She has served on many academic committees, including an academic standards committee and a diversity and equity committee. In her early career, she was an instructor and volleyball coach at Labette Community College, Parsons, Kansas; Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas; and Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma, where she coached volleyball and taught various courses. She has volunteered as a youth volleyball coach for many years. Eberhart is the founder and owner of The Unstoppable Teen (, where she has provided access to SEL training through school presentations and trainings, community presentations and individual coaching. She recently contributed her expertise to a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Mahatma Ghandi Institution of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (UNESCO MGIEP) scooping paper entitled “How Mindful Compassion Practices Can Cultivate Social and Emotional Learning.” Because the manuscript was so well received, Dr. Marilee Bresciani Ludvik, in her role as a as a Senior Research Fellow at UNESCO MGIEP, invited Eberhart to contribute her expertise to writing a section about SEL for teachers in a book called “Positively Transforming Minds within Educational Systems: An Inner-Directed Inquiry Process Intended to Cultivate Employee Desired Skills in Adolescents, Young Adults, and the Instructors Who Serve Them.”

Tonya holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Kansas. She holds a Bachelors’ degree from Colorado State University-Pueblo where she received her teaching certificate in Physical and Mathematics education.
